Mobile Web Application or
Native Mobile App?
Mobile devices, such as the
Apple iPhone,
can run an application in one of two ways. A '
Web
App', which is a website, optimised for
mobile use, or as a '
Native App',
which is an application specifically developed
to run on a specific device. 'Web Apps' have the
advantage that they can be accessed from the web
browser on the device without a download from an
'App Store', and in many cases one web app can
run on many different types of device. 'Native
Apps' require specific versions to be written
for each device, and the App would be installed
from the devices 'App Store'. The advantage of a
"Native App' is that it's appearance and
functionality is more tailored to the device.
However, the cost for development increases
significantly as multiple versions of the same
application are written for many devices.
